This popular heirloom hails from the San Juan Islands off the Washington coast. It is a widely adapted cultivar that has proven to be consistently productive in wet to arid and cool to hot climates. Crystal-white bulb skins give way to red-streaked clove wrappers. The medium to large bulbs contain 1220 strongly-flavored cloves in multiple layers. ‘Nootka Rose’ makes very attractive garlic braids and is credited with being one of the longest-storing cultivarsstoring up to a year. As a softneck garlic, no cold period is needed, making it an easy choice for southern gardeners. Mid- to late harvest.
